From 1 July 2017, the NDIS became available state-wide for people currently receiving supports through New South Wales Government specialist disability services and new participants will progressively enter the scheme over the coming years. In the South West Sydney region alone over 60,000 people with disabilities will require support from disability service and product providers.
The NDIS provides eligible people a flexible, whole-of-life approach to the support needed to pursue their goals and aspirations and improve their quality of life. The NDIS supports people with a disability to build skills and capability so they can participate in the community and gain meaningful employment. As a result, South Western Sydney residents with disabilities will gain greater control over their lives and the services they choose. Although not everyone will be eligible for a NDIS plan, it is important for everyone to be able to choose high quality supports, services and products to improve their quality of life.
The South West Disability Expo is a unique event and will be South Western Sydney’s largest disability Expo. The organising committee is comprised from three South Western Sydney councils, Canterbury-Bankstown, Fairfield and Liverpool Councils, as well as local service providers, the Australian Government’s National Disability Coordination Officer (NDCO) Program and 4community.
The South West Disability Expo will give South Western Sydney residents quality face-to-face time with over 120 potential product and service providers and a range of Government agencies and advocacy groups. Attendees will also have the chance to test drive the last technology, aids and equipment. To keep everyone entertained during the 2 days of the expo there will be a jam-packed schedule of performers, kids’ entertainment, Exhibitor/Government Q&A sessions and key speakers from the sector including Mary Hawkins from the National Disability Insurance Scheme.
And we want you to be involved in planning the Expo! If you would like to give us some feedback ahead of the Expo about how you would like to receive information, you can take our Empowering Consumers in the NDIS Era Survey. The survey will be open until August 14th.
Any organisation that would like to be represented at the Expo, should call 02 9025 9390 or visit The South West Disability Expo website.
We look forward to seeing everyone there.
