At Afford, we’re all about providing whole-of-life supports that help our clients achieve their NDIS goals.
Each and every day our staff go above and beyond to provide our clients with opportunities to learn, grow and have fun.
Kristian is one of our clients who recently achieved a significant milestone thanks to the support of our Allied Health team.
Our Allied Health team is comprised of specialist psychologists, speech pathologists and occupational therapists. Our team are also qualified feeding therapists and can provide support to families with picky eaters or problem feeders.
Afford has supported Kristian since he finished high school. He and his family turned to Afford to develop Kristian’s communication skills, as he did not use spoken words at all to communicate with others.
With support from Afford, Kristian moved out of his family home and into an Afford home towards the end of 2017. He has developed friendships with his housemates and enjoys a new found independence living the life he wants – thanks to the Afford Lifestyle.
He has been participating in speech therapy with one of Afford Allied Health speech therapists for over a year. By participating in regular activities and strategies with his therapist, Kristian developed confidence and a willingness to communicate.
It was truly a magnificent moment when Kristian recently said his first words “go, go, go” while waiting for his Group Home Lifestyle Assistant to take him for a walk.
Kristian has now successfully started to achieve one of his long term NDIS goals of increasing his communication skills and learning the appropriate tools needed to express his words and needs.
This is an amazing achievement for Kristian. It is an inspirational story about the power of support and encouragement to achieve goals.
Each and every day we see our clients taking small steps to achieve their goals in life. We are privileged to be part of this journey with our clients and their families. To every family, we are committed to going above and beyond to make sure every client is presented with choice and opportunity to live life on their terms.
